Arts in the Park rescheduled for June 28
The rained-out Arts in the Park show and auction will take place Sunday June 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at celebration park. The corn are displayed at the bank on a trailer most of the week; Brian Parr will drive the trailer in the parade on Saturday, June 27.
Vinton cruise set for July 18
The annual Vinton Cruise takes place Saturday, July 18. Registration begins at 3 p.m. and the cars will be on display until 7 p.m. when the cruise starts.

2015 VU two-person best shot tournament set for July 10
No matter what type of golfer you are, we hope to see you and your friends on July 10 at the Vinton Country Club for the Annual VU Golf Tournament! The tournament's format has been updated to a two-person best shot for 2015, but expect all of the same hole competitions, mulligans, stake prizes, and fun that have occurred in past years! Food will be available for purchase in the clubhouse and carts will be available for rental with registration.
ISU Extension accepting Master Gardener applications
Are you an avid gardener, but would like to know more about gardening, plants and horticulture? Would you like to meet people who share your interest in gardening? If so, you may be interested in becoming a MASTER GARDENER.
What is a MASTER GARDENER? Master Gardeners are individuals who have an interest in horticulture, have taken the Master Gardener training offered by the extension service and share their time and expertise with other gardeners.
New Party in the Park tradition begins Monday: Geocaching contest
We all love a good scavenger hunt, right? This year the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting its first Party in the Park ‘Play in Our Backyard Geocaching Contest” that will provide you this opportunity! Utilizing coordinates entered into any GPS device or your smartphone will enable you to come within close proximity of the cache (aka treasure).
Dysart Club plans July 4 celebration
The annual three-day Dysart July 4 celebration takes place beginning Friday, July 3 and wraps up Sunday, July 5.
Events include a Kiddie and Grand Parade, a 5K run, a dance as well as various events and concessions throughout the weekend. Wristbands are available for rides through Friday and Saturday.
Sunday morning events wrap up with a church service in the park. Shellsburg Backdraft 5K set for July 18
The annual Shellsburg Firemen’s Auxiliary Backdraft 5K Run/Walkwill take place a 8 a.m. On Saturday, July 18.

Paranormal investigator Chad Lewis to return to Vinton library Thursday
Chad Lewis, a paranormal investigator, returns to the Vinton Public Library this Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
He had so many interesting tales to tell the last time he was here, we invited him back to share more of his adventures and the ghostly happenings in Iowa. Please join us Thursday evening for another round of eerie, maybe even hair-raising tales.
ACT 1 board to hold annual meeting June 16
The ACT I of Benton County Board of Directors is holding the annual meeting Tuesday, June 16m at the ACT I Centre at 6:30 p.m. The address is 906 D Ave.
All actors, previous board members, crew, directors, and interested community members are invited to join the meeting.
We will be electing a new board member to replace outgoing member Sue Gates.
